While we’re casting our votes for the best cornbread in town, let me know where I can find cracklin’ cornbread. We never made this in my family and I’ve only tasted it once. I’m sorry to say that particular piece didn’t offer much to write about, but I’d love to try good cracklin’ cornbread.

I’m always leery of ordering cornbread, because often it is an abomination unto the Lord (they didn’t have maize in Biblical times, but I’m certain that if they did there’d be something about adding sugar, honey, or maple syrup to cornbread being a one-way-ticket to at least Purgatory), but they do it pretty well at The Cupboard, and the hot water cornbread at At The Bistro is made for mopping up various likkers, juices, and gravies remaining on your plate after lunch.

I agree with Randal, those little cornbread muuffins at The Cupboard are so hard to resist!!! And The Little Tea Shop makes great cornbread, too.

Mexican (jalapeno) cornbread at Picadilly cafeteria is really great. Cracklin cornbread is best at the Country Store in Jackson, TN

At Frank Grisanti’s we have been making cornbread from scratch each morning for 20 years. We are very proud of our cornbread and our customers love it.

Nothing compares to Mom’s, but the little muffins at the Cupboard are pretty darn good.
Seems like so many other places have soggy cornbread. That is just not right.

Marsha, I think you & I are on the same wavelength because we have been recommending a lot of the same places! Little Tea Shop corn sticks, The Cupboard’s mini muffins, & Bryant’s white cornmeal mini loaves are my favorites. I was told one time & maybe somebody can tell me if it’s true that the Little Tea Shop uses leftover whipped cream from the desserts in the corn sticks. The neat part about The Cupboard’s mini muffins is when the batter spills out over the pan & is still attached to the muffins when they hit the table. Talk about good & crunchy! And Bryant’s is not the least bit greasy or dry either - I don’t know how they do it because the mini loaves are fairly dense. I also don’t care for cornbread that’s too sweet, Randal - maybe the places that are putting all the sweeteners in it are Yankees!

Sweet cornbread can get out. It, along with greens, is something rarely prepared properly in most restaurants, and the best stuff usually comes out of grandma’s kitchen.

I like the cornsticks at Piccadilly way better than their Mexican cornbread. Also excellent are the previously-mentioned Little Tea Shop and The Cupboard.

Jim ‘n Nicks, definitely. Took 2 dozen to a Dallas Cowboy tailgating party in Dallas. Sad that we ate them so quickly!

Tea Shop cornbread is great. Better than mom’s (don’t tell her). I wish I could make it like theirs. I usually can’t eat my meal, because I have eaten so many cornbread sticks.
