Oh my. Are we ready for this yet? We’ve been on our lists for less than a week and I’m pulling out big guns like pimiento cheese–without a doubt one of my favorite things in the world. Let’s take our votes on this, and later this spring (it’s just a couple of days until spring is official), I’ll go conduct a taste test like I did with chicken salad last year. My rules for good PC: It has to be made with sharp cheese, and it must be made with good mayo–never Miracle Whip. Of course, you might prefer Miracle Whip, and that’s OK; I promise not to delete your nomination.

I’m a novice, only recently deciding that my family wasn’t insane to love the PC so much. What converted me? Holiday Ham.

My vote on pimento cheese would definitely go to Wiles-Smith Drug Store.

The only piminuh cheese I’ve had in a restaurant is at Jim-N-Nick’s (it comes with the hot sausage appetizer), so I can tell you in all truth that it’s the best I’ve had.
Also the worst (other persons in the party claim that it’s only the best, and not the worst, but you don’t see them commenting, do you?)

The best pimento cheese is at Shalom Bakery at Quince & Kirby. It’s the same recipe they used at City Bread on Mendenhall (now closed). It’s creamy but not too mayo-y, and has green onions.

I have two votes - the little place next to Great Wnes at Polar and Ridgeway, can’t recall the name at the moment.. and also agree with Aimee’s candidate.

Another vote for holiday ham, although I think personally that it has to be homemade!

Another vote for Shalom - especially when they have it pimento cheese puff form.

I hate to suggest a store bought product, but Price’s pimento cheese amd Hautly’s pimento cheese are really good. They also have a Bacon-Cheese and a Jalapino Cheese. Kroger usally keeps the Price’s pimento cheese http://www.pricescheese.com stocked. Hautly’s http://www.hautly.com/ is in all the Schnuck’s stores.
The reason I like Price’s and Hautly is both use real cheese and not the processed cheese spread as the cheese base.
I have even used shredded cheese, mayo and pimento to make my own. This method is an art form that requires experiemtation to find the best mix od the three ingredients for taste.
As far as srestaurant, Old Medina Market I-40 exit 85 in Jackson TN has the best.

The place that Victoria at 10:08 am is talking about is Paradise Cafe. I’m not really sure whether their pimiento cheese is made with true mayonnaise, but it has tiny pieces of walnuts in it. It’s really really good. I think the cheese they use is maybe just slightly less sharp than what Holiday Ham uses in theirs. Holiday Ham’s is a bit denser and drier than Paradise Cafe’s. Both are great - they’re just different.

I have to agree with Nancy, altho I am a mild cheese pimento cheese maker. I’ve got to go check out Wiles-Smith Drugstore because I wasn’t too crazy about their chicken salad. Tell me about the Shalom Bakery pimento cheese puff, Mama Squirrel - that might become a new addiction.

My vote is for Newk’s as well! It is spicy, but great with a tomato on the sandwich to cool it down a bit.

The best is at Vanelli’s Deli on Farmington in Germantown. The chef makes the mayo from scratch…YUM!

Without a doubt, Holiday Ham. Won’t eat it from anywhere else. Theirs has converted many in our house from non-eaters to pimento cheese lovers!
