There are some mighty fine mac and cheese dishes around town. As I wrote in my review of Mollie Fontaine Lounge this morning, right now I don’t know of any better than theirs–including those of the best home cooks I’ve known, my aunt and my late grandmother. I think it was Carole H who wrote under the fried chicken post that Barskdale has good mac and cheese. Let’s hear what you think.

I’m not a fan of the stuff, personally, but I rather like the mac & cheese at At The Bistro on Brooks.

I’m always trying the next “best” recipe for mac and cheese, having grown up on a top of the stove version that was a creamy favorite at every family gathering. The only one that has ever come close was a John Grisanti baked version; he gave the recipe while operating the visitors’ restaurant at Methodist (University) Hospital and it was incredible. Unfortunately, I lost it. I will try this restaurant for the mac and cheese.

The Grove Grill … if I’m not mistaken, they make it with Maytag Blue. Quite nice.

Blue Fish has mac & cheese with shrimp and scallops - fantastic. Mac & Cheese isn’t as good as mollie fountaines but the extra sure kick it up a notch.

My favorite is a Lobster Mac N Cheese at Walker’s Drive-in in Jackson, MS. It has gouda cheese and lots of rich butter and cream. It is on North State Street and worth the trip.

I think the macaroni and cheese at EP’s Delta Kitchen rates at the top of my list for “gourmet”. And for “home-style” macaroni and cheese, you can’t beat the Little Tea Shop.

Did anybody see the Neelys making mac & cheese on their Food Network show this morning? It had a homemade spicy cheese sauce & a topping of crushed potato chips, bacon & parmesan cheese before being baked until the chips had browned. Probably quite salty but it looked wonderful.

I don’t get it with Interim’s mac and cheese. It’s good, but is it that good? I like a mac and cheese with something crusty on top. I actually think that Piccadilly has some good mac and cheese.

So, I had to go to interim today to try the mac and cheese after reading all this at work this morning… it was pretty good. Different with ham and some white cheeses including parmesan and something sharp I can’t place, but very delicious. As stated above, my only addition would have been a hard bread crumb like topping to add some crunch. Still good.
Where are you all going to send me next???

I agree with Elizabeth, the Piccadilly has really good macaroni and cheese…cheesy, crusty and a little sharp.
