Too cute!

The Girl Scouts are out selling thie cookies everywhere today. When I went to Schnucks (nice-looking king crab legs for $7.99 per pound) an adorable little girl wearing a “Brownies are Good for Everything” (or something like that) T-shirt sked me if I wanted to buy cookies and I told her no. Remember, I’m doing the no-flour no-sugar diet, plus I’ve already purchased cookies for the office.

When I was leaving another woman told her that she couldn’t buy cookies because she was on a diet. The same little girl asked me again if I wanted cookies and I said no thanks. As soon as I walked away, I heard her say to her friend: “I know what we should do! Let’s only ask the skinny ones!”

I laughed so hard I was tempted to turn around and buy cookies from her.

This is priceless - straight out of Art Linkletter’s “Kids Say the Darndest Things.” The trouble with only asking the skinny ones is that they probably ARE skinny because they don’t eat Girl Scout cookies either!

I think the cookies I ordered will be delivered today. Since I ordered them, my husband has been diagnosed as borderline diabetic, so they can’t go home. They can’t stay at my desk as I’m trying to lose weight, so I guess they will go to the department at large. I try to be generous with the co-workers and all, but I think $20 of free cookies is a bit much! I can’t wait to run into one of the Scouts selling cookies at Wal-Mart; I’m sure I won’t be one of the skinny ones!

Jennifer - how is the diet going? I admire anyone who can follow that plan - I know I could not. I’m trying the old “exercise more, eat less”, and I’m down 7 lbs. since the first of the year. Not great, but better than gaining!

I can vouch for the no-flour no-sugar thing. I can’t keep it up (I love coca cola for one thing) but when I did it, I lost 60 lbs and it stayed off. The craving for sugar goes away after a while.

Amazing that you encountered a real child selling cookies! My store has grouchy mothers selling, no children in sight. Do they get badges if their moms do the work?

Loved your comment about the Girl Scout cookies!!! Out of the mouths of babes —- what she could have said was ‘Then how about buying cookies for our service project, Target House?’ — Many of the Scout troops have picked another group to promote cookie sales for — - my daughter picked Target House for hers — (Target House donations tonight at Schnuck’s at Poplar and Perkins from 4:30 till 7, then Sat at Poplar Plaza Kroger from noon till 4)
Our Scout Troops have always tried to do a service project along with cookie sales - cookies for the Armed Forces, Hope House,Target House, Grizzlies House, etc -You buy the cookies at the booth, we deliver - and this year the girls’ portion for Troops 606/68 Lindenwood Cadette/Seniors is helping them get to the International Scout Centers in Switzerland and England this summer…
