My mother-in-law gave me her silver cups years ago and I’ve promised her a mint julep on Derby Day since then, but I always forget. Tomorrow I’m going to come through, though. Anyone have any tips? I can find recipes galore online, but I’ve never made one and unless it was long ago and I’ve forgotten, I’ve never tasted one.

This is the official recipe for the Derby from their website:
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
fresh mint
crushed ice
Early Times KY Whiskey
Mix sugar and water to make simple syrup. Add mint and refrig overnight. Make one julep at a time. Put crushed ice in julep cup. Add 1 TB mint syrup. Add 2 oz. whiskey. Stir rapidly to frost cup. Add a sprig of mint to garnish.

Hi Jennifer… you’ve been doing such a great job on the blog! I’m starving for some chicken salad after reading the latest entries.
Now, I know you’re talking mint juleps here, but it reminded me of that wonderful milk punch you made one time… girl, I’ve got to have that recipe!
Giddy-up!
