You know, Jeff’s right…

In a recent comment, Jeff basically told me to hit the road, get lost, let somebody else work this space, somebody who is in Memphis, somebody like Fredric Koeppel… gotta say, it stung.

But on reflection, and given the hectic pace of my work/eating load in Seattle, I think I’m going to take Jeff’s advice and bow out. For now… you never know what the future holds.

Hopefully, some of you will follow me on my eating adventures in the NW on the Post-Intelligencer’s site.

It sure was fun while it lasted…

Delurking to say I hate to see you go, but I’ve bookmarked your new site and will keep an eye on what you’re up to. Good luck!

Neil

I’ll continue to follow your exploits in Seattle, but I also agree with Jeff for more than one reason. If you have notice that the number of particpants in this blog have diminished since you left? Most have probably never checked the blog again thinking it was done. Only one request of the CA and that is that whoever wants to take on a blog like this needs to be faithful in posts and responses. There is nothing more aggravating than going to check a blog and find the last post was several months ago.

Leslie, I wish the best of luck back in Seattle. Let me know how the eggs benedicts were.

Don’t you think you were being a bit harsh on Jeff? “Hit the road” and “get lost” is nowhere close to what I wrote, and I didn’t make those comments as an attack against you as a person.

Long-time fan, as you know, Leslie. It is very difficult for this to be YOUR blog from Seattle. You really need some local support here from Jennifer, Frederic or really anyone who loves to eat. You can comment, as you’ve recently done, on wider issues. My purpose for reading the blog was to learn about Lobster King, Soul Fish, A&R, Quetzal and the Asian markets though I enjoy the posts that were tangentially related to food (like the Booker T post below Jeff replied to). The key to a successful blog is repetitive, consisten, interesting and educational posting.

FYI, I found great bread here…it’s the NY Times no knead recipe from my oven. 4 loaves in and I’m hooked.

Enjoying reading BOTH blogs (as if I had time for another), but definitely think you need a local angle.

I certainly hope he said it nicer than that because that’s certainly no way to show Southern hospitality!

It was a good run while it lasted and we’ll miss you, Leslie. I’ll hit you up for some chow recs next time I’m headed to the Seattle area. Happy eating!

Jeff is wrong!

Fred

Leslie can have her blog and Jennifer and Fredric can have theirs. I value Leslie’s contribution to the discussion.

I have been refraining from comment because I was more than a little unhappy w/Jeff for what he said. I can see both sides of this situation, & I do miss the local commentary. But I find the Seattle blog is more than a bit user UNfriendly, having to login to post a comment. It’s just not the same because I don’t know any of the places in Seattle, altho I have noticed that there are very few commenters so far (maybe they don’t like having ito logon either). I was all set to give a review of Yazoo’s, where I enjoyed dinner this evening, but now I’m unsure how to go about it. I guess I just want it back like it was, which I know isn’t going to happen. I like the idea of seeing if Fredric or Jennifer might get into the blog & keep it up, & then Leslie could comment like the rest of us when she has time. Would that be a good compromise?

I think you’ve been doing a great job blogging with all of your new obligations. I really enjoyed the blog for tips and new places to try. You’re very down-to-earth and most of your recommendations have been on point. But, if you have to go, best wishes!

eating well

Jeff’s comments were not exactly characterized correctly by Leslie. So some of you may want to read it before commenting - it’s under the Green Onion posting. It is interesting that this positng has created more comments that in other posting in recent weeks. Not sure what that says but it must be something.

In any case, Leslie has done a great job, but I think the local slant is very key. This is a Commercial Appeal blog after all.

You’re breaking up with us the day before Valentine’s Day?

hey everybody… here’s Jeff’s comments below… sorry to make him the bad guy, he really didn’t tell me to hit the road.

Truly, let’s not end this on a sour note… I do think that he’s got a point. It would be great for someone in Memphis to work this space. Hope it happens.

I really have a very full plate right now, and cannot do it justice… So, I will miss all your wonderful, insightful, delicious comments.
Let’s keep in touch!

As my friend Mike Mills would say: Peace, Love and Barbecue!

Leslie,

I have been a big fan of yours and was sorry to find out you had to leave Memphis. After attending your first “meet the chef” at Encore, I thought it was a great idea and was looking forward to a series of those! So I must ask, why are you still blogging on the CA from Seattle?

For those of us still stuck in Memphis please consider relinquishing the blog to someone like Fredric Koeppel so that we can maintain the latest news and commentary on more relevant topics for the dining and food scene in Memphis.

Thanks.
