Wish you were here!

Here are a few pics from Seattle…

The scary-looking thing in the middle is a geoduck, on display at Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe, a funny spot on the waterfront…

What’s new in Memphis? I’m coming back for a few days… to meet the movers, and sneak in a couple of biscuit/BBQ/chicken-and-dressing meals… any suggestions?

I don’t know if you have ever been to George’s Downtown on 3rd Street, but they have KILLER baked chicken with dressing on Thursdays. Great greens, too!

I miss reading about your visits to local places, but you sure make me want to take a road-trip out west!

Avoid the shrunken heads at Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe.

It is freezing here in Memphis. Winter finally came.

I saw a Bobby Flay show one time about geoduck & it looked like about the most awful thing I could imagine eating :-( Is it as rubbery as it looks?! If you’re here on Sat. or Sun., try the whole wheat biscuits, San Diegan omelet & four-cheese grits at Brother Juniper’s. Hopefully, we won’t have bad weather during your visit, but it would seem mild in comparison to what you have gone thru on your trek west.

See, I told you, Living ut there you will have to load up on Self-rising flour and corn meal on visits.

To add to Tripple’s comment: bring a coat! Winter is here. They are teasing us again with a “wintry mix” sunday Jan 21. We also have a bad cold/sinus bug in the region. Its kept me hitting Jason Deli for soup.

The oddest thing has happened! The biscuits at the Krystal Restaurants are square. This change happened recently. I wonder what “chain store exec” decided on that gimmic. I guess everything is square at Kristal.

In Jackson TN, we are going to have a Red Robin Gourmet Burger restaurant (http://www.redrobin.com/) opening up in a few months. I think it originated in Washington State. It will bookend the Columns shopping development with the already open Gunther Toody’s Diner (http://gunthertoodys.com/home.html# a small up and coming chain), and be in the same area as Fridays, Ruby Tuesday, Perkins, Quiznos, and Olive Garden. Sonic is also nearby. Isn’t Red Robin from your stomping grounds?

I went into Red Lobster to buy a gift card the other day and saw the most yummy thing, a Lobster Pizza. I told my wife that when payday comes, we are going to get that.

Speaking of Pizza, I can’t wait to try Zpizza in Cordova. Fredric gave it a low score of a “C” but he wrote a real good review. With Fredric you have to really work to earn a “B” or an “A”, so a C is real good.

Jealous! Look at the array of fresh seafood - forget the geoduck. Leslie, I am glad you are happy. Being able to do what you want to do, where you want to do it. That is something most of us never experience. Sorry we will not see you again before you are gone, but do keep in touch.

Oh, and Fred, you will love the Red Robin. Great burgers. Their bleu cheese burger is the best. We had one here in Memphis for a bit, but in the wrong area of town, so it did not last long. Wish there were another.

Sauces on Main is very good. Judd Grisanti’s on S. Main is opening very soon. Someone is also opening an oyster bar/seafood restaurant on S. Main. Downtown is definitely the restaurant hotspot these days.

I forgot about EP’s Delta Kitchen on Beale. It’s awesome.

Leslie, I hope I’m not too late, but you’ve got to try Interim! WOW!!! We went tonight and it was outstanding! We tried a number of dishes in our group and it was hard to pick a favorite. The calamari appetizer was great…super crabcakes…oysters on the half shell that are simply indescribable and those were just starters. The pork shank served with grits and kale was fork tender and fell off the bone. The burger was sinful and the pommes frites were the food of the gods. The service was very nice and very pleasant without being overbearing. I wish I could remember all of the comments on the dishes I didn’t try, but everyone loved the food. Prices were VERY reasonable and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. We have found a new haunt! I nearly forgot to mention the macaroni and cheese which I won’t even describe because I can’t do it justice, but it is presented beautifully and has chopped country ham in the creamiest bechamel I ever tasted. Needless to say, it’s rabbit food tomorrow!
