Nearing the end of our cross-country blizzard-fest, we made a stop in the old stomping grounds to see friends and eat pizza… Bennedito’s makes the best pies and my pal Amy made my day by treating me to dmy all-time fave, a prosciutto and roasted red pepper. So good.
The lovely and talented hostess Holly made her sweet specialty, creme brulee… with the new torch her son bought her for Christmas… ahhhhhh!
I got some very cool Indian spices from Santa, who shopped at Sur la Table… what kinds of kitchen goodies did you find under the tree this year?

I got a new enameled cast-iron dutch oven (Mario Battali brand) in which I was finally able to prepare a decent pot roast — never had anything heavy enough before. Never has one been so excited about pot roast! Today I’m making a cassoulet to share with Kate and her fam tomorrow night . . .
Oh, and some new wine glasses to help wash down all my dutch-oven creations!

My sister-in-law and her husband bought me a lovely bread dipping set. My friends Josh and Beverly bought me a new cookbook - West Coast Cooking by Greg Atkinson. With one of my gift cards, I bought myself a new 7″ Henckles hollow-edge santoku knife and a new nonstick roasting pan.

All my friends & family know what a foodie I am, so I got multiple culinary-related gifts for Christmas. One friend gave me a gift card for Firebirds restaurant & a pkg. of cocktail napkins with the saying “I’m Dreaming of a White Chocolate Christmas.” My sister gave me a set of collapsible silicone measuring cups, a kitchen timer that looks like an antique clock, & some tiny little whisks. Several friends sent gifts from Harry & David, Wine Country Gift Baskets, gift cards for Perkins, Cracker Barrel, Sonic drive-in, Bed, Bath & Beyond, both sweet & savory Chex mix, & yummy candies. Someone else gave me Wolferman’s English muffins (the oversized thick kind!) & I also got a bottle of Vermont maple syrup in a leaf shaped bottle, frozen hot chocolate mix from Serendipity Tearoom in NY, & a cookbook. And ALL the parties involved food, drinks, & leftovers. The hard thing is rationing it rather than sitting down & just going into a food frenzy.

We got a set of beautiful serving spoons and forks because my friends say if they bring their pretty ones to covered dish suppers I keep them. I don’t know why they think giving me a set will keep me from liking other pretty sets.
We got a great martini set for two…vodka, vermouth, olives, two glasses, a bowl of really tasty spicy nuts, all on a beautiful silver gilt tray.
We got twelve french ramkins, two round and two square silicone cake pans.
A client gives me the most unbelievable chocolate rum sauce every year. This year was really special because I have her house gutted for remodel. They’re living in a rental property and traveled for the holidays. I felt very special to be on her short list.
We got a kitchen towel that said “Forget it Honey, Prince Charming is living with Mr. Right!. Brandt and I are trying to figure out which one is Prince Charming and which one is Mr. Right.
Back to taking the decorations down.

Got a gift card to the Melting Pot and some knick-knacks from Williams-Sonoma.
Tim–You have to let me know where that kitchen towel came from!?!

My folks bought me one of those little George Foreman grills to replace the old one that was losing its nonstick coat (and growing embarrassingly dirty). I’ve already taken it on a test drive, and think those salmon skewers the grocery stores now stock are going to make for serious improvement in the quality of my home cooking.
