I’m making a weeklong study of something I will dearly miss when I leave the South… started with lunch at Gus’s downtown. Man, the joint was jumping. I phoned my take-out order in and still had to wait.
Next up: Uncle Lou’s, then Alcenia’s… what other fried chicken hot spots do I need to visit? No, unfortunately, I don’t have time to zip up to Prince’s in Nashville.

A trip to Gus amd Bozo’s in Mason TN!!!!!
Easily your next task is a farewell tour of all the Q from DeValls Bluff AR to Jack’s Creek TN. Serious stops at Interstate, Paynes, A&R, your favorite Tops, Coleman’s on Millbranch, Rendevous, Leonards, Central, and Corky’s. Have that cooler with dry Ice to give the movers with all the things you like from the Q tour. This will help you through the first month.
Next is Cozy Corner for a final fix of REAL Soul Food.
Then have Fredric take you to his favorite haunts.
Then hit Paulette’s one last time.
Of course you gotta do one last power lunch at Huey’s on Madison!
Now lunch at Dino’s or Elfo’s for that last southern “Memphis” Italian fix.
Last is the sampling of airport food as you leave town

I wholeheartedly agree about Pirtles. Pirtles was the chicken of my childhood. My mom always got the liver dinner. I have tried livers in some fantastic restaurants and I still can’t stand them myself.
At Pirtles, I recommend just a regular box. You must dip both your fries and biscuit into the gravy. I would also suggest trying the steak sandwich “all the way” with slaw and gravy. It is a mess, but it is good.
I am still tempted to rouse up a mob to chain ourselves to the CA doors to keep you here. If you have to go though, you do have one last opportunity at the airport. Definitely hit the Interstate BBQ place. Becoming airport food hasn’t ruined Interstate.

I agree with Kristie … Pirtle’s has EXCELLENT chicken … and also really good spicy, southern gravy! If you haven’t tried it, it’s a MUST before you leave. (still sorry to see you go!)
