Had a great turnout for the first-ever bloggers meet the chef… we put Jose Gutierrez on the hot seat and he didn’t wilt.
Noshed on some amazing apps, put some faces with names familiar to regulars…
Got the green light to do it again, probably quarterly. Let’s hear some suggestions for the next spot, will travel for food!

Leslie, this is a cancel what you’ve got planned kind of event. Can’t wait to the next one. It would be great to visit with the chef at Hunt Phelan now that he’s been in Memphis a year. I’d like to hear his vision for the future.
Thank you for your kindness and CA for their generosity. As they say in all Southern local papers, “A good time was had by all and the house/food was lovely”.
It was great to put names with faces and we even got a bit of restaurant “dish”. Let us know if it pans out.
After leaving you I met friends at Meditrina for dinner. We were the only table at 8PM. The wine and food was excellent. We had a platter with three seasonal dips that was also laden with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, greens and toasted almonds. Then we had tomato and blue cheese soup, Muscovy Duck small plate and Boullaibase. It was all very good. Anyone downtown should try to help fill the tables so another good spot doesn’t hit the dirt.

Thanks so much for the hospitality, Leslie! It was a great evening out.
Let’s see, suggestions for next time . . . I would love to hear from Karen Blockman Carrier, Jimmy Ishii, Felicia Willett, Wally Joe . . . is that a good enough start?

Ginger - I saw that you and Groom of Ginger stayed for dinner. Your review?

Thanks much for a very fun evening. I wish I had a recording of Jose remarks - the story he told about feeling at home when he smelled burnt food because his mother was such a bad cook was a hoot. The food was great as well and it was a delight to meet so many Memphians who love good food. All the suggestions made here for the next chef/restaurant sound great - count me in for the next one.

I’m so sorry I missed it! How about McEwen’s, Jarrett’s or Stella as a suggestion for future outings?

I’m for any place already mentioned. Maybe Rick Farmer could sign us all up as a group for a cooking class at Jarrett’s. Add to the list Tsunami because Ben Smith is a hoot. Also Lulu Grill where the McLeans are also lots of fun.

Glad to see that fun was had by all. We (the Bartenders at Encore) enjoyed ’slinging’ a little ‘bar juice’ for everyone, and we hope to ’sling some juice’ for everyone again soon.
What kinds of drinks would we like to see on cocktail menus? We are always acting on suggestions AND usually experiment with drinks Wed. and Thur..
Thank you Leslie for a fun time.

In response to Chris’ question about cocktail experiments. Would love to see some herbal infusions. While traveling I’ve had such things as cilanto margarita at The Modern in NY, Rosemary pear martini at Zola in Nashville. Also something interesting with the ginger infused vodka, very warming in the winter!
