She is just as nice as pie…

… you just know some celebrity chefs do a certain amount of hamming it for the camera. Well, I just got off the phone with Paula Deen and she is truly as warm as a bowl of chili.

She let loose with that famous laugh when I said that I wasn’t trying to “butter her up”… she generously heaped praises on her team that keeps her on track. This was no hint of condescension when she talked about coming to the Mid-South Fair to connect with “my people.”

I’ve chatted with a lot of famous folks over the years, and Paula Deen is definitely one of the friendliest. (Some day, I’ll fill you in on my close encounters with Mister Jerry Lewis!) Read my story on Ms. Deen in the Sept. 27 food section of The Commercial Appeal.

If you could interview a famous person (living, not dead), who would it be?

“No hint of condensation,” huh? I guess she’ll remain gaseous for her visit.

Thanks for the heads up about the date your Paula Deen interview will appear. I’m sure she has been a lot worse places than the Mid-South Fair in her day (we just don’t need to hear about THOSE, do we :-) Coincidentally, her Sept. 29 appearance coincides with the debut of her new Food TV show, “Paula’s Party.”
