Grabbed lunch at VGM on Macon, behind the Bel-Air… chicken adobo, which has a slight vinegar kick… and char-grilled sausages that had a hint of sweetness balancing the savory. A huge plate of food for $5!
I’m also very excited about the opening of an other island-inspired eatery… Hawaiian BBQ opens Friday in Cordova (1134 N. Germantown Parkway)… picked up a menu today, and it reads like the real deal. Dead giveaway? The presence of Loco Moco… a hamburger patty with gravy and topped with a fried egg. MMMMMM! Also… Spam Musubi… (one of those love-it-or-hate-it things…) There are burgers if you’re not feeling adventurous.
I will definitely make the drive to check this spot out… The number is 901-754-0567.

We just got in from Hawaiian BBQ, and we loved it. Angela had the BBQ beef ribs. The sauce has a nice teriyaki base. The ribs are cut across the bone. She prefers her ribs cut a little thicker, but really, they are perfect finger food size.
I had the honor of being their very first loco moco customer. The rice is sticky by design and there are no onions or macaroni salad. The only thing I would do different next time is ask for an extra shot of gravy.
The place is very nicely decorated, bright colors and modern design. Comfy couches to wait for your to go orders on. It is around the side of the strip mall, facing the side of the movie theater. Make sure you don’t miss it.

Saw that loco moco thing on Food TV recently - “The Secret Life of…” show. I had something at Abuelo’s with a fried egg on top & it was very tasty, so I think loco moco might be right up my alley.
