New Orleans on my mind…

Been riveted to the spectacular Spike Lee “When the Levees Broke” on HBO past couple of nights… and I’m working on a story about some restaurant folks who have ended up in Memphis, bringing a special flavor to the city.

Stumbled onto an excellent site called gumbo pages, which includes some awesome recipes. I can’t wait to get down there again very soon. Anyone been lately?

I shoulda toldya about gumbopages.com. I found it a looong time ago due to our shared love of Uncle Tupelo and gumbo and cocktails and chowhound.com. I haven’t visited in a while…great site.

Sorry, Leslie, I am with Gregg here. Gumbopages.com has been a favorite for years. That was how I found KBON radio in Eunice, LA. A radio station that streams and ,at one time, fed vistors to the station every Wednesday night. Don’t know if they still do that.

Leslie,
I would have sworn I tipped you about the Gumbo Pages a long time ago. Anyway, it is a good site, and many of the recipes are from restaurants and chefs like John Folse. Another good site is www.nolacuisine.com. It is a personal home page. Scroll down and click on the index to view all the recipes-again many from the professional sources mentioned above.

Yeah–I remember stumbling across the Gumbo Pages back when I lived in Kenner in 1995 and the Web was shiny and new. I’ve made the Palace Cafe’s White Chocolate Bread Pudding recipe from there any number of times, and I can say with assuredness that the quality of the bread pudding varies directly with the quality of the white chocolate you use, so check your ingredients carefully.

I actually used that site to make shrimp creole, and it was the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve eaten in the best places in South Louisiana).

Thanks for the tip. I’ll check it out as we’re going to a Katrina Open House Saturday night. A NOLA couple that relocated here because their house burned due to Katrina is having a party and the attire is evacuation casual or Katrina Chic. Hurricanes will be flowing as well as jambalaya and creole potato salad. I’ll check the site to see what I can add to the theme.
