Spent a long weekend in Washington state, among hordes of cousins, sibs, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces… this shot is taken on the Icicle River near the former family homestead… gorgeous, huh?
Despite my good intentions of eating sausage and sauerkraut in the “Bavarian Village” of Leavenworth, never managed to drag myself away from the swimming hole… ended up cooking a whole bunch. Brought a little bit of Memphis with me… some Central sauce, and Rendezvous rub. Both were big hits on grilled chicken, pork loin, veggie burgers…
Oh, and this isn’t going to come as a big shock, but… air travel has taken yet another ugly turn. With the new code orange alerts, everybody’s checking their luggage… so it took more than 45 minutes for the bags to show up on both ends. Still think it’s better to chuck all liquids and carry on… Anybody have a similar horror story?

Coming back from our week in San Francisco we had to check a bag anyway so we had a place to stuff our liquids. I had an entire pocket of stolen hotel soaps and shampoos — tacky, but I won’t have to buy soap for ages now. Hey, more food money.
Our big problem was bringing back wine. We took ten bottles to FedEx Kinkos in Napa only to be told that they don’t ship wine!
The next day at SFO was no fun either we arrived nearly three hours early only to find that the Air Tran counters weren’t open. And when they did open, they told us that we would be responsible for any damage to their plane if our checked wine broke. After a wild goose chase looking for a FedEx place in the terminal, we gave up and checked the wine. Fortunately, it arrived in good shape.
Our airport delights continued when we arrived at security only to find out that the checkpoint wouldn’t open for another hour. I’m glad we went early. Bleah.

I spent a lot of time last week flying. While i agree that its a hassle to deal with bag check, I found the security lines and boarding/unboarding much improved without all the luggage being carried on.

You know, it’s really not nice to torture us with pictures like that when it was 102 degrees in the shade here! Oh well, thanks for bringing back some rain from the Northwest. (I assume you checked it in your suitcase instead of carrying on.)

I am a llittle let down with the Rendezvous & their rub. I don’t know why they have to put MSG in the rub. YUCK.
I would like to know if it is the rub they use in the restaurant.
If so….what a let down. ![]()

Leslie, this picture is gorgeous! Looks almost like something European - baby Alps or something. I’m sure your family has a much better appreciation for Memphis BBQ now that you have demonstrated your prowess & all the good stuff you’ve learned since you’ve been here
If your nephew Nick, the bottomless pit, was in the house, I’m sure HE was appreciative!

Leslie, the water looks amazing. I can count the rocks in the stream–crystal clear! Any fish in there???
