Can we talk?

Noticed a drop in comments… and thought now might be a good time to mention that I am cooking up something spectacular to celebrate a groundbreaking milestone… 5,000 comments.

We’re right about 4K right now, and I sure do appreciate everyone who takes the time to offer feedback. It’s what makes this effort a pleasure.

I can’t reveal the details of the celebration just yet, but will tease you with this… those most prolific commenters are in for a treat… providing the boss signs off on my expense account!!

I’ve posted a few comments before that never got posted. If they don’t get posted, then there’s really no reason to bother. Life’s too short and there’s too much out there to eat.

Ooh! Do we all get a coupon for a free Krystal’s or something?

Seriously, I enjoy reading the blog, Leslie– sorry I don’t comment more.

Karen

Wow, you sure are a tease. Somehow I doubt I’ll be up there as a prolific commenter, but I’m sure going to try for the next little while and I hope my efforts go noticed. ;) I tend to comment when you post about specific restaurants in Memphis, especially Midtown or East. When you talk about wines or other places, or even just specific foods you cook, I never have anything to contribute since I know nothing and I am the worst cook EVER. :x

Ok, I’m game! I noticed several of us posted to the “gonna visit Memphis where should Jane go?” blog.

Susan

I know you have to keep an eye out for the not-so-suitable posts that come along from time to time but it sure does change the flow of these posts when you are on a road trip and nothing is posted for days. Now if you want to take some of us along to act as your assistant blogger while also taste testing the fine foods you encounter along the way…

All of my comments have been posted but I post less often now because it is more difficult to do so. The spam safeguards were needed but really slows down the process and it is more time consuming to go thru the submission process, especially when I’m at my desk and hoping to not get caught surfing the CA website. But, I still check in every day just to see what’s going on!

Neil

It’s a shame, too. Those who posted comments always seemed interested not only in commenting on your work, but were willing to help other find information on other foods, events, restaurants that were not specifically covered by your posts.

Leslie, I think everyone is either out of town on a last-ditch-before-school-starts trip, or they are just getting back in the swing of things with fall around the corner.

I wouldn’t worry too much.

I will add that I posted a comment not too long ago that never showed up. I’m guessing there might be a glitch somewhere, or perhaps comments are getting lost in spam/junkmail?

I’ll admit, my comments have decreased since the review process went into place and slowed things a bit. I’m all about instant gratification (gee, is there a connection to the passion for food?). Having said that, I know you’ve got to review before posting and I’m here, I’m listening, and I love the blog.

Leslie,
You don’t need to post this comment, and please take it as just my own personal opinion/feedback on your bolgs, but my preference is to see more blogs from you about eating in and around Memphis, new places that are opening (there are a lot), or places that have closed or have really gone down hill. Perhaps include your opinion on why the place isn’t doing as well, or maybe you tried a place that has really turned around and may be worth trying again.

What places have you tried that are new? What was it like?
What were your experiences good or bad that would help the rest of us make intelligent decisions about where we spend our dining dollars. What did you/did not like about your experience. This would of course be more casual than a restaurant review, but good info for sure as there are many places you eat that are very good that may never make it to the review section. If you got really good/bad service somewhere, or a great meal - we really want to know about it.

I like your updates on how things are going at the MFM and interesting/ hard to find food items you have found.

The blogs you post where you want to know what we are thinking of drinking this next weekend or what ingredients we like to use for something or other are not really the kind of things most people find worth responding to it appears.

My 2 cents.

I went to the new Costa Vida today, and it is just like Fuego except they also have ice cream. The burritos are otherwise identical, which is a good thing. The tortillas are handmade and the meat is of excellent quality. It fills a huge void in the fast casual market in this area. Check it out.

Hey, I’m thrilled to see such a great response to my gentle prodding…
I know it’s a pain when there’s lag time for your comments to be posted… rest assured, I’m out there eating! I try to be diligent, even checking in on weekends, and vakay…
Talk to you soon!!

I love the blog!

I think sharing your adventures trying food and eateries wherever you are is perfect.

Memphis has spread out so far in the last 20 years, and the choices of menu types has varied as well.

It wasn’t that very long ago when the Luau and Joy Young were the only exotic choices in Memphis.

All I ask is that you cajole Koppell to get a blog!

nancy

I’m just the opposite of Jeff. I don’t eat out a ton although I do enjoy reading about the restaurant experience. But I am more likely to respond to more general interest items. Maybe it’s because I’m a cooking class/food junkie rather than a restaurant patron.

I feel confident in the fact that I can definitely be considered as a “loyal blogger,” having seen myself referred to as such in the review of at least one of my early restaurant recommendations :-) That said, I never realized I could enjoy blogging as much as I have since Whining & Dining came about. I have learned so much from others about local dining, sources for ingredients, & people who are as passionate about food as I am. Leslie, your enthusiasm is contagious & you bring out that urge in others. I used to spend lunch hours at work on the blog. But now that I’m retired, it’s even better to peruse the blogs & comment more often since I have the luxury of more time to do what I please. Whining & Dinding is a major pleasure.
