Got a story in Friday’s Memphis Playbook about liquid relief from this miserable heat… I’ve come up with a list, but want to hear about some of your favorites, so please drop a comment below.
There’s a tasting of summer wines at Mantia’s tomorrow, click here for details.

We got a watermelon from the guys from Senatobia at the Downtown farmer’s market a couple of weeks ago. Cut it up and saved the juice. At least 1/2 gallon was saved and has been used to make all sorts of vodka/Cointreau/watermelon drinks up with a salt rim. Lime is next and maybe some mint.
We also found a drink in Montreal a couple of weeks ago…1 part white rum, 2 parts white cranberry juice, 1 part limoncello with a slice or 2 of fresh ginger. This is for my wife. I’m still hooked on subtle variations of Bombay Sapphire martinis. I find something and stick with it.

Is there anything better than a pitcher of margaritas on the porch at Cafe Ole? I love the beer at Boscos, but since they serve it warm it isn’t really conducive to patio drinking. I know the beer snobs insist beer should only be cool, but most people like it ice cold. Could they give you a choice? My favorite beer joint in New Orleans–the Bulldog on Magazine–allows you to choose between a regular glass or a frosted mug. I’m not much a beer drinker, but it’s hard to beat a cold beer on a hot summer day (except maybe a margarita).

Fellow frequent poster Kate and I will be sipping sangria with our chicken tacos and gazpacho tonight. I’ve never made it before, but it’s so hot, that nothing else even sounds good! I’m sure the hubbies will have an obligatory glass and then revert to beer, but I don’t want anything that can’t be served over ice right now.
