Making a quick trip to Seattle and was thinking about where to eat… yes, I’m always thinking about where to eat!
Ran across the menu for the hot/hot/haute Boka… and was amused by their “urban bites” menu, which included Dungeness crab “cupcakes”… here, have a gander: boka.com.
Kind of reminded me that the fine line between being playful and being pretentious is often crossed in a city that thinks it’s too cool. (Well, yes it is… high of 70 today!) Oh, don’t get me wrong… I love Seattle. The restaurants there are incredible. I just think the food snobs there need a generous helping of humility.

Seattle - oh the thought of it. There are some place that sdo some pretty basic stuff but very well. Top Pot donuts are quite a treat in the afternoon. Cascadia at happy hour for the $1 hanger steak burgers and $5 martini with douglas fir snowball. Absolutely must - Salumi for cured meats, and do get there early and know you’ll have to wait. If you come on tuesday, homemade gnocchi. It’s every bit as good as people say.

What kind of icing does one put on a crab cupcake? I mean, a cupcake has to have icing, right? Otherwise, it’s just a muffin and that doesn’t have the same alliterative quality.

Speaking of Seattle - did anybody see chef Tom Douglas beat Morimoto on “Iron Chef America?” The secret ingredient was salmon - a no-brainer for a Northwest area chef, particularly one of Douglas’ distinction. He won, hands down.
