Author Ray Lampe, aka Dr. BBQ, is in Memphis doing some research…
He writes: “Today I ate at Corky’s, The BarBQ Shop, Central BBQ and Leonards. When I was here for the BBQ Festival I ate at Rendezvous and Cozy Corner and have eaten at Interstate in the past. Tomorrow I’m headed for the Germantown Commissary, Paynes, Showboat and maybe Cozy Corner again.”
Any place else he should try?

A&R and possibly hit some of the more rural joints if he has time.
Dad has pretty much perfected the strawberry’s ribs you ate on his big, Big Green Egg. 6 or so hours with a little applewood.

Dr BBQ can add the following:
A & R, Colemans’s on Milbranch, Jack’s BBQ & Rib Shack on Old Summer, Pig -n- Whistle in Bartlett, and Little Pigs on Highland.
If Dr Q can get out to the boonies outside of Memphis, then add the following: Craigs in Devall’s Bluff AR, Joyner’s in Jack’s Creek TN, both Hays Smokehouse & Scotts in Lexington TN, Neil’s in Dyersburg, TN, and both Reggi’s & Latham’s in Jackson, TN.

Hi all, and thanks for the tips. I had three lunches today. A&R on Leslie’s advice, Showboat and Cozy Corner. I really like the vibe and the food at Cozy Corner, A&R was very good and I should have skipped Showboat as some wise local told me to.
I think I am done eating BBQ for now, your other suggestions will have to wait until m y next trip. Tonight I am going to eat some catfish. It’s too late for advice so I hope the Olive Branch Catfish Company is a good choice.

Try A&R BBQ on Bellevue/Elvis Presley (South Memphis), Neely’s on Jefferson (Downtown) and Payne’s on Lamar (before Southern).

I’d say Dr. BBQ has done his homework
What do you think of BBQ salad, Mr. Lampe? I always get weird looks when I tell someone about that, but I think it’s one of BBQ’s finest concoctions, altho not when there is BBQ sauce on it. Just the meat & the salad greens, vegetables & dressing of choice, please.

Never tried a BBQ salad. It just seems wrong.
Had a great time in Memphis, it’s a great BBQ city.
On my way to Atlanta I stopped to see my old friends at Big Bob Gibson BBQ in Decatur, Alabama. I highly recomend the place and the turkey.
