Final thoughts on a pork-stuffed weekend

Unbelieveable! Exhausting! Thrilling!

Those were just a few impressions from the three-day Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest…

I savored some incredible meat, stuff that was intensely seasoned, wonderfully smoky, tender, juicy… on Saturday after judge’s turned in their comment cards. I know a lot of folks think this is one giant corporate and/or private party, but Saturday morning the true spirit of the contest shines brightly.

This year, I met a whole bunch of people who had traveled from great distances to attend, but ran into only a few from Memphis. Let’s make plans to huddle up down at the park for some pig next year, OK?

Check out the old BBQ blog for some fun pics from the event.

I’d love to understand how this BBQ fest works. I once went at a random time with some Norwegian friends of mine, and we were sorely disappointed. We paid the entry free, then walked around forlornly as it become obvious that if you don’t know anyone, there’s no point in going. We walked past all the stalls and had a rib or two from one of the few vendors, then left - a huge waste of money. So if I were to ever go again, and don’t know anybody - what do we do?
