Meat me in St. Louie!

I’m going to Saint Louis this weekend and have just started thinking about where I’m going to eat…. looked online and there are too many choices!

I’d love some upscale Italian… but I’m open to just about any suggestion…

I am from STL and here are a few recommendations and none of them are crazy expensive

Trattoria Marcella - Awesome upscale italian - cute south side neigborhood

King and I - Great inexpensive Thai on South Grand

Lu Lu Seafood - Dim Sum

Cafe Balaban

Chez Leon

Harvest

King Louie’s

You can read reviews of these on www.riverfronttimes.com

sherman

Cheeseburger at Blueberry Hill!

There’s a place on The Hill — starts with an R, but I can’t remember it — maybe Rizz-something? Be sure you have reservations; it’s always crowded. But wonderful. Just tell some native St. Louisan it’s the place on The Hill that starts with R….

Go to a Cards game and eat at the new Busch Stadium.

We love it.

Also Marcella is very good.

www.saucemagazine.com is the best source for St. Louis dining. They’ve never let us down.

We ate at a really cool tapas place called Mirasol in University City across the street from the Pageant.

Go to Red Moon, it’s in an alley off of Washington Ave downtown. It’s not Italian but it is some of the best asian food I’ve EVER had. I think their website is redmoon-stl.com.

I think (or I hope) the earlier poster was referring to Rigazzi’s Restaurant, and it is good, very good. I suggest Zia’s on the Hill. I think Koppell mentioned this one once.

If you just want Italian, I suggest Charlie Gito’s or Garavelli’s, but they are located in South County, not the Hill. Another choice is Tony’s in Downtown. Tony’s is a AAA 5 diamond restaurant (only 30 restaurants nationwide have 5 diamonds)

Now, Leslie, I’m going to suggest something different.

John D. McGurks Irish Pub in Historic Soulard! Is as close to a Dublin Pub as anyone could imagine. Best Irish potato soup on the planet!!! With that last comment, I have to weigh my next suggestion. You’re a Kelly, right?? OK, you need to try McGurks’s Guiness Stew or their Bangers and Mash. Your roots call on you to try your irish foods.

Don’t forget to take Koppell some Irish Whisky Pudding or McGurk’s Bailey’s Cheese Cake back with you. If you do this, Fredric will be at a loss for words!!!!!

At night they usually have an authentic Irish band with live music.

After you’ve had the ale and food and reconnected with your Irish soul, then go over to the Soulard Market and buy all that produce you can’t find in Memphis!

Cead Mile Failte to you Leslie!!!!!! (Many -thousand- Miles of Smiles)

Another former St. Louisian here. The place on The Hill that starts with an R is Rigazzis…home of the frozen fishbowl. I’d love to recommend King Louie’s, but it’s gone downhill over the past couple of years…ever since they nuked the original patio to expand the dining room.

Beyond Italian food on The Hill…if you’d like to drop some $$$ and can get a reservation, I’d recommend Sidney Street Cafe. It’s outstanding. If the weather is decent, go grab a bite at the renovated Boat House in Forest Park. You also can’t go wrong at Remey’s Cafe and Wine Bar in Clayton or Big Sky Cafe in Webster Groves.

Enjoy your trip.
