Yesterday’s milestone

I’m not a numbers person…. just ask my 8th grade math teacher. Still, I wanted to trot this figure out: 700. Seven hundred. Seven times 100…. and so forth.

Yesterday’s blog entry was my 700th since I started Whining in January 2004. That’s a lot of virtual vittles… and I’m hungry for more.

I’m also looking to update this space after the first of the year, introducing Podcasting, so y’all can come along with me on some of these magnificient eating adventures. Also, planning to add a community bulletin board component a la Chowhound to encourage more chatter.

Please let me know what you’d like to see in the new, improved Whining… links to local restaurants? A chance to participate in an online interview with celebrity chefs? More photos?
I’m wide open. Look forward to reading your thoughts!

700?? Are you sure??? That seems like a lot! Well you are a prolific poster and you have created a Legion of fans that look for your adventures in the culinary and digestive world.

I’d Like to see a recipe exchange for restaurant recipes, so we can try to imitate the things we try.

I’d really kike to see if someone has recipes from long gone favorites, such as the Ohman House (a diner), the four flames (a Kopell fave), Keithleys Town and Country, Britlings, Earls Biscuits place, Cibbs House, Gridiron, Toddle House, and that Downtowner Motel Pancake house (The Pancakeman).

If you can figure out a way to introduce me to Tyler Florence, that would make me happy.

Also, I always enjoy the coming and goings of local places (what chefs are moving where, what new places have just opened up, etc.).

No Sluggo Dave

If you’re handing out introductions, I’d line up for Nigella Lawson.

I’d really like to see an active message board that integrates with the blog. I’d also like to see a real user restaurant reviewing system. List every restaurant in Memphis, except fast food, and allow users to review them on their own. Allow others to rate the reviews, and give the reviewers rankings (like Epinions.com). Furthermore, I’d like to see a bulletin board where restaurants can post restaurant news, specials, and discounts free of charge.

I second Todd’s idea about the user restaurant review system — I love to give my opinion!

It’s a website but SAUCE in St. Louis… www.saucemagazine.com does an incredible job of covering the food scene in St. Louis. They’ve provided us with some incredible culinary adventures in St. Louis. Some of the things they do would be very helpful to those of us who live here and especially to those that visit.

Virtual vittles - love it :-) I like ALL these ideas myself. I remember some of the places Fred wrote about, & Charlotte Durham’s Recipe Finder column might be able to find some of them for you if you would call, E-mail or write her & ask. She is on page M4 of today’s food section in case you haven’t read the paper yet. I haven’t read much because I’ve been blogging & now my lunch hour is nearly over :-(

I second all the great ideas everyone has suggested. We’ll take one of each, Leslie! Except for Nigella–sorry, No Sluggo! I’d prefer Todd English, Eric Ripert, Jean Georges, since we’re all “ordering”.
