Faced a wait for a table at two different spots for lunch… first Bhan Thai, which has its capacity reduced when the weather turns cold and you can no longer eat on the pretty deck.
Then, went to Sekisui in Midtown and no tables… we talked about going to Krystal, but decided to give it five minutes and, sure enough, got seated. (But then waited and waited for the sushi!)
We’ve talked about waiting for a table at dinner, but how often are you faced with a wait at lunch?
On a completely unrelated subject: Does anybody know where to buy goat meat in/around Memphis?

Actually, quite often. I live and work the Parkway Village area and most of our restaurants are gone.
Olive Garden, Shoney’s, Sakura, East End Grill, Huey’s, and on and on. Other than El Mezcal, Hooters, Leonards and the assorted oriental restaurants/buffets, I either have to go to Olive Branch or to the Poplar corridor. Of course, same problem at the dinner hour.

That Sakura at Mendenhall/Knight Arnold was my very first sushi experience and while I like sushi at other restaurants, nothing has compared to what I had there. Back to the subject at hand, I generally will not wait for a table at lunch. I work in E. Memphis and there are simply too many other options available.

Cynthia, Sakura was also my first time with sushi. The owner at the time, and I am not sure of my spelling, was Mejon. She was kind enough to introduce me to a lot of Japanese foods over the years. Not all of which I liked mind you.
Another good sushi bar is at Mikasa Japan in the Regalia Center. The owner, K K Katsu, was a championship gymnast and coached here in Memphis for a number of years.

For goat … Jerusalem Cafe on Summer behind Guadalapana next to Charlie’s meat market. They have goat heads … I’m sure the shanks or chops are near!

When I worked downtown, a wait at lunch was often a problem. But those restaurants that didn’t grasp the concept were often the ones that ended up closing shortly after they opened. The problem was almost always that they were being avoided by those who had to be back in their offices on time.

Leslie, I’ve mentioned the best goat cheese in the world here before. It comes from “the goat lady” (her names actually Bethel)in Byhalia, MS. Earlier this year she gave us some ground goat, as well. I made Swedish meatballs with veal, pork and goat and I made meat loaf. The goat meat was actually more fatty than I expected but both dishes were delicious.
I can share when we get more or give you her info and you can contact her.

You can typically find goat meat anywhere near an African, and I mean a real African native, not an African-American. They typically buy a live goats and go from there. There are many farms in Mississippi that will sell you a goat.

South East Memphis has lot of options. No need to wait more than 5 min, if cant get table in 5-10 mins or they pretend busy i would walk next door restaurant.
By the way there is only one place i know and buy regularly which sells halal Goat Meat - mixed, leg, chops, ground etc Pleasant View Meat Market on Mendenhall south of winchester. Any one wants to buy chops Goat or Lamb, good deal there.
